Nonprofit QuarterlyA quarterly magazine that discusses a wide range of topics related to nonprofits, including fundraising, governance, public policy concerns, and more.  They also publish online articles regularly that are available for free.

Chronicle of PhilanthropyA monthly magazine focused on updates related to philanthropy, fundraising, and strategies for both grant seekers and grantmakers.  They have useful resources and tool kits available that can be useful for solving practical problems you may be facing in your nonprofit work.

Blue AvocadoBlue Avocado is a free HTML newsletter that is released approximately 7 times per year and provides updates to a nonprofit audience on a wide variety of topics, including fundraising, human resources, data and results measurement, and board governance.

Nonprofit With BallsA terrific, humorous blog about navigating nonprofit challenges, written by Vu Le.  If you've ever felt frustrated about some of the challenges in your nonprofit work and wished the world understood your pain, this is the blog for you.  Check it out - trust us, you won't regret it!

Joan GarryJoan Garry writes a terrific blog about the challenges of nonprofit leadership.  For young nonprofit professionals, this would be a terrific blog to read to understand some of the challenges that senior leaders at your organization are likely facing and to begin to work on your own development to become an effective nonprofit executive or senior leader.

Fairleigh Dickinson Center for ExcellenceThe Fairleigh Dickinson Center for Excellence offers three distinct certificate programs that are terrific professional development opportunities for young nonprofit professionals: the Executive Nonprofit Leadership Certificate, the Executive Philanthropy & Resource Development Certificate, and the Certificate in Nonprofit Essentials.

Center for Non-ProfitsThe Center for Non-Profits is the major umbrella organization for all non-profits in the State of New Jersey.  They provide regular trainings and webinars, engage in advocacy on behalf of New Jersey non-profits, and host a terrific annual conference each year that is a terrific networking and educational opportunity for young non-profit professionals.  They have also been a terrific supporter of YNPN-NJ and we encourage all of our members to visit their website and find our more about what they have to offer!

NTEN (Nonprofit Technology Network)NTEN is an organization that focuses on empowering nonprofits to be more effective in their missions through the use of technology resources.  They offer both individual and organizational memberships which allow for discounted participation in webinar and in-person trainings, discounts to their annual conferences, a ton of other benefits.  If you or your organization have an interest or need in an affordable option for staying up to speed on your technology needs, NTEN is a great resource.

 

NonProfit Information Resources

GuidestarGuidestar has the largest databases available for finding information about nonprofit organizations.  You can use their website to find out more information about an organization's impact, finances, board governance policies, and current staff.  One of the best resources available for quickly finding out information about any nonprofit.

Charity NavigatorCharity Navigator is an organization that focuses on nonprofit accountability and evaluates the performance of nonprofits to provide guidance to potential donors.  They evaluate organizations based on two dimensions: Financial Health & Accountability/Transparency.  Another great tool to find information about nonprofits or list information about your own organization to provide additional information to prospective donors.

IRS Information for Charities/NonprofitsThe IRS maintains a specific section of their website to provide guidance to nonprofit organizations regarding their tax exempt status and annual filing requirements.  If you plan to be in senior leadership of a nonprofit someday, this is a great resource to review so you are aware and informed of the annual filing and compliance requirements for nonprofit organizations.
